Barbados Spring 1996

Island of Paradise

This picture was taken from the highest point of the island. The drinking water in Barbados is perhaps the cleanest in the world. Barbados was formed by a coral reef, which naturally filters the water. All of the other islands in the Caribbean were volcanically formed. The island is approximately 14 miles by 24 miles and contains 70 miles of public beaches. In fact all of the beaches on the island are public, maybe we should take notice. How can man own nature?

Sugar Cane and Rum are the primary exports of Barbados.

My Moke. This is the typical car given to tourist on the island. It has no opening doors, no seat belts, no roof and tiny wheels. However, It is an excellent mechanism for getting a tan and practicing driving on the left side of the road. I like to picture myself as Tom Sellick in Magnum PI, when I drive around the island. Barbados was originally a British colony, but is now independent. This accounts for the large influx of European on holiday.

Oink! Oink!

Remember Zebra's bite!

From Left to Right: Me, Jan, Susan, Mr. Chips and Uter. Jan was a shipping captain from the Netherlands. He decided to take a weeks holiday, he had a 250 foot cargo boat. Susan is my sister and got married summer of 1997. Mr. Chips was a local businessman and was known for setting up night clubs in London and NYC. Uter (not sure of name) was from Germany and a very nice person.

This is a picture of Elizabeth from London, England. We had an amazing week. After our holiday she came to visit me in NYC. Liz blew me off via e-mail about 2 months later. However, Liz is the reason I went to Europe in summer of 1996. Thanks to Liz, I met Emilia from Brazil in London (long story). I still think of Liz from time to time.
